Bass Spinner Lures -Crank Bait - Poppers - Minnows

Large and small mouth bass are found in clear, rocky, fast-flowing streams and rivers. They like waters with gravel riffles, deep pools, and cover in the form of large rocks or woody debris.

With the bass season consisting mainly of the months from April through October, Bass goes through different cycles which cause them to feed. Along with the temperature variations and water conditions, these factors can cause the bass to feed on top of the water or down deep.

To cover the different conditions, several different types of baits have been created to catch these fish. Bass may start by feeding on Crank Baits, Minnow Lures, which run at different depths and then strike Poppers as the water surface becomes warmer, many spinner lures are also used for the deeper hiding bass.

The largemouth bass, as a species, favors shallow water. Even in deep reservoirs, some bass will always be shallow, and when they are, they're usually hunting a meal. No wonder tournament pros rely on super-shallow crank baits for quick limits.
Bass often herd bait fish onto shallow reservoir flats and river bars. While your first inclination might be to try a top water lure, a shallow crank will usually produce bigger bass.
Wear Polarized sunglasses when cranking shallow water, watching for submerged stumps, rocks, logs and other bass-holding objects. Close isn't good enough -- the lure should bump into/deflect off cover during the retrieve. Most strikes occur the instant your crank bait glances off the object.
Cover isn't always a necessity for shallow bass, as long as forage is present. Any shallow spot where you see bait fish flipping on the surface or mud trails from crayfish moving across the bottom is potential bass water. Comb the area thoroughly with a super-shallow crank in a color pattern that matches the forage.
Vary your retrieve until you find what triggers strikes. Most bass pros find a stop-and-go retrieve produces better than a straight crank.
Experiment with noisy and quiet crank baits. Noisy lures often work best in stained to muddy water above 65 degrees. Loud rattling sounds may actually turn off bass in clear, cold water.

Special Note in Using Crank Baits

As to crank baits each bait has a different wobble speed to them and in cold water use crank baits with a slower wobble and when the water is warmer, around 80 degree, the use of a faster wobble action bait that dives deep. Remember fish are more active in warmer water especially the bass.
