Swimming Leech

The “Swimming Leech” lure mimics a freshwater leech when presented close to the bottom. This lure acts like a natural swimming leech. Use a very slow retrieve and let the swimming leech settle into the deeper pockets as a freshwater leech would act in nature.

Freshwater Leeches spend the day under rocks or leaves on the lake or stream bottom. They detect their prey by the vibrations it makes in the water. The leech, which is an excellent swimmer, then comes out of its hiding place and attaches to the host animal. It can attach with its mouth or another sucker on its tail.

Water temperature was 41 degrees after a 36 degree low last night. The wind was a steady 20 and up to 25 mph. The high was only 46 degrees air temperature I froze my buns off. As you can see from the picture I was wearing coveralls.

I think this cool weather is what really screw up the fishing here also. The river temperature is only 78 degrees that is 10 degrees less than it should be. It really confirms what I have been saying all a long {Tim also} the fish including small mouths bite more when it hotter around here anyway! This morning the it was 59 degrees when I got up at 7AM which will again drive the water temps down it should 72 degrees at night and the water should be 85 degrees this time of year that's why every year things change so much the weather has a profound effect on every aspect of fishing especially rain & heat levels.

The picture is of my last time out at Heidecki Lake with my friend Greg. Boy I have been trying to nail some strippers on a fly rod here but its all about timing there. If I spent 150 days there like I do on the river I would have better luck setting up on those 11 foot shallow shelves they like to sit on waiting for dinner.
