On May 23, 2007 one of the resident Dunlap Lake trout
fishing experts hauled out a real monster. Keith (Smitty) Smith, of East Millsboro,
who has pulled his share of trophy trout from the impoundment, landed what
Al's Packan at Cap'n Al and Sons Bait and Tackle on the lake described as "The
Largest Trout I have seen caught in the lake in the 30 years I've been here.
Smith's trophy rainbow trout measured 30 inches and weighed 9 pound
13 onces.
Smitty caught his monster trout while trolling
a Jerry's Flies 3 1/4" Suspended Crankbait. He used a Dipsy Diver to get his
bait down to where the large trout hang out. Before you ask. the answer is not
likely. The state probably didn't stock this trout at Dunlap Lake. More than
likely it is one what was stocked by the Dunlap Lake Co-Op, which funded four
stockings of lunker trout at the lake this year. "I helped stock Dunlap Lake"
buttons can still be purchased at Cap'n Al's for a $7.00 donation.
